Pressure jet washing in Wick street, Painswick Bradstone Wall cleaning in Painswick, Gloucestershire

Sarah from Wick Street in Painswick had this problem and was concerned about her patio becoming slippery. It was heavily infested with black mould, Algae and fungus. Living literally in the middle of the woods this is something that cannot be avoided as micro orgasms are growing on trees, bushes and are even in the air around you, They come from nature and spread to your walls and patio areas.

Controlling and killing the fungus via a SoftWash Treatment is a must!, By having a regular annual SoftWash treatment to your house walls and patio areas will keep the FUNK at bay. If you live in a natural beautiful area and want to keep your stones walls, Patio and steps from becoming hazardous its worth thinking about SoftWash

SoftWash is the alternative to pressure washing, While Pressure washing is great for blasting dirt essentially your just giving the surface a haircut it does not kill the root of the fungus and it will continue to grow stronger and spread further with rapid regrowth of more fungus. Essentially by pressure washing you just mask the mould and the water you have juts blasted it with helps feed the fungus further. Also pressure washing can cause damage to pointing so is only best to be used on things such as Block paving, concreate or slaps with little or no pointing.

Pressure Washing in Cheltenham

Pressure washing in cheltenham carried out by SkyLine SoftWash. Mr John Lane from Cheltenham, Johns driveway had around 50 years of fungus growing on the surface of his driveway and footpath, Due to the wet weather this made Johns drive very slippery underfoot. Also John’s wheel chair

Wheels struggled to grip the drive in the wet as the drive way was on a steep slope in some areas.

The slippery Fungus had caused Mr Lane much hassle and problems that he no longer could put up with. Pressure Washing Cheltenham

Mr Lane took it upon himself to find the solution so gave SkyLine SoftWash a call! Our team made Mr Lanes driveway cleaning a high priority due to the nature of being so slippery and dangers.

Within a few days all of john’s foot paths and driveway were pressure washed in Cheltenham and were followed up with a SoftWash treatment to make sure all fungus had been killed so it did not re-grow.

Pressure washing alone will only give the fungus a haircut generally leaving spores and mould to rapidly re-grow so it’s always best to apply a SoftWash treatment after pressure washing in Cheltenham

Render cleaning in Shropshire | Best Practice

SkyLine SoftWash have recently been render cleaning in Shropshire.

render cleaning service in Ludlow, ShropshireLudlow is a market town in Shropshire, England, 28 miles (45 km) south of Shrewsbury and 23 miles (37 km) north of Hereford via the main A49 road, which bypasses the town. With a population of approximately 11,000, Ludlow is the largest town in South Shropshire. The town is significant in the history of the Welsh Marches and neighbouring Wales.

Many buildings have Lime Render which can accumulate what we call mustard algae, thick blooms of spores and micro-organisms. When situated so close to a river and nature such as woodlands, forests microbes spread a lot quicker.

By having a SoftWash treatment you sanitize the surface with a treatment to prevent further growth.

Bleach is often used with water to kill growth on your walls. However when you have this on a larger scale it much safer to use a SoftWash System mixed with greenwash as you can use safer, weaker solutions of bleach. Bleach combined with Greenwash acts as a catalyst and a biocide so really helps to prevent further growth on the surface.

Render cleaning recomendation

render cleaning service in ShropshireIt’s recommended that you treat the area as soon as you see any green algae appear. By using Bleach (Sodium hypochlorite mixed with greenwash) this will remove the algae and treat the area living a clean fresh looking Lime render.

When using bleach it would be careful to consider the run off, Small pets, fish and even children can be affected if consumed, Final Wash would be recommended to put down after the treatment to make safe the areas for children and pets. By neutralizing he area you can be sure that the area is safe.

SkyLine SoftWash recently carried out a render cleaning service in Ludlow, Shropshire the results were fantastic.

Exterior stone cleaning specialist in Cheltenham

Are you in need of an exterior stone cleaning specialist in Cheltenham?

Cheltenham is probably one of the most complete Regency towns in England and historically the original and most fashionable spa in the Cotswolds & Gloucestershire.

Many of the buildings are vast and sculpted with many different building materials such as stone, render and even copper.  These areas need stone cleaning specialist to obtain the best results.

SkyLine SoftWash recently cleaned the stone at possibly the finest home in Cheltenham – a multi-award winning classical villa, set in private grounds close to the town centre.

Regency homes like this require specialist knowledge and treatment!

So how do you clean stone walls without causing damage?

The correct procedures and methods should be used to give the best results especially when cleaning such lovely stone work.

The DOFF Steam Integra is best suited for cleaning stone with its low pressure and high heat can penetrate and kill the most deepest spores and mould within the stone.

Leave your pressure washer in the garage and save it for your block paving or patio cleaning. When it comes to stone wall cleaning you need to treat this with heat and sensitivity, A SoftWash System is ideal for gently cleaning most stone work by applying the correct chemical blend in a safe way treating and sanitizing the surface killing any unwanted spores and eradication of stains.

The last thing you want to do is cause damage with high pressure washing this will just give the growth a haircut and feed the mould further with just cold water. The beauty of the DOFF machine is that it uses high heat 150 degrees to kill the spores within the stone and uses low pressure and low water volume to minimise the corrosive effects and damage a pressure washer could cause. Also by Using a SoftWash System you can chemically clean & Kill any remaining unwanted infestations giving longer protection of the stone.

Specialist stone cleaning at 45 the park in Cheltenham

High level stone wall cleaning using MEWP and DOFF in Cheltenham

Picture from a MEWP looking down at the SkyLine SoftWash van, Doff steam cleaning from MEWP SkyLine SoftWash van in background

Even though the villa was only 2 stories high due to the structure at the roof line was more of a similar size to a 4 story property.

The Access to the roof line was something that needed carful thinking about. Scaffolding at times can be time consuming, which can be obstructing for other trades that maybe working onsite possibly setting back the project further and have a knock on effect move in date for the client.

It can take up to a week just to fit scaffolding alone so the Best solution was to use a MEWP (Mobile elevation work platform) Hired from ermin plant.

The MEWP was sufficient enough to reach the tops of the chimneys that had heavy fungus growth attacking the surface of the stone. By Using the MEWP we were able to DOFF steam clean the stone work from the top down followed by a SoftWash Treatment.

When Hiring MEWPS (Cherry Pickers) it’s worth thinking about the ground under foot that it will be working on , Things such as block paving can be moved from the sheer weight of the MEWP, Also things such as drains and floor man hole covers can be dislodged and even tip the MEWP. If you Tip a MEWP this can not only cause injury to the operator but also any of the public of other workers. You can also be given a fine if an operator was not trained to operate the MEWP or if an accident does occur…

It’s important to speak to a professional to see what size would be suited for your project. Occasionally a MEWP may not be suitable and instead as an alternative option such as Scaffold tower maybe best suited to reach higher wall cleaning projects. (PASMA training and IPAF training is essential for safe erection of scaffold towers and Operation of MEWPS.

you may think Render cleaning in cirencester is easy, Many people have tired and failed, Inlcuding myself many years ago. Its somthing that is necasary but you dont relise it until you have a renderd home and growth starts to appear.

Its not dirt growing on your render, It’s an infestation of unwanted microorganism growing on the surface of your property. These Micro-orgasms can come from nature such as tall trees growing around the property. The Wind, the rain and general UK weather cycles help spread the fungus around. Being carried in the wind and settling in the porous surface of the render.

Then Once settles these funk stats to settle in a spread further into the render. The warmer climate and wet conditions help these microbes to grow & Spread further.

Many people think cleaning render using a pressure washing is a sound idea,  having  experienced previous clients use pressure washers, before calling the render cleaning experts from expense  the high pressure can blow  off the render and revealing  the mesh or blockwork beneath.

Exterior house cleaning, How do you clean render on your property?

To rid the external mould and fungus growing on your render requires a SoftWash render cleaning treatment Using Low Pressure chemical spraying.

By Using a SoftWash System works as an external fungus and mould remover, Using Green Wash & Sodium Hypochlorite which kills the fungus and acts as a Biocide killing the root of the problem.

SkyLine SoftWash and gone through the SoftWash Systems Authorised training programme to insure safe working practices,  Safe contractors accreditation for safe use and handling of chemicals.

Treating your render every few years with a mild bleach solution and Greenwash which acts as a catalyst to boost the power of bleach at lower strength , when blended at the correct solution levels acts as a biocide which will keep fungus at bay for longer.  The SoftWash system is very low pressure similar to a garden hose and Garden hand sprayer which limits the need for high pressure washing or blasting which can cause damage to the render.

Cleaning Democracy: How Window Cleaners Look After Parliament’s Windows… And How Much It Costs

Window cleaning in westminster The Palace of Westminster is also known as the “mother of all parliaments”. It is home to the House of Commons and Lords, and carries with it all the weight of tradition and prestige of rich and lengthy history, at home and abroad. (Though it isn’t as old as one would think, its modern form being constructed in 1840.)

Westminster Palace — also known as the Houses of Parliament — is a UNESCO World Heritage site, a Grade 1 listed building, and is an impressive 112, 475 square meters in size. That puts it at a colossal 1,324 times bigger than the average British household.

As the symbol of the UK’s wealth and, one could say, health, it is important that the Palace at least looks impressive to its subjects, as well as for tourists and visitors from overseas. (Although it is slowly subsiding into the Thames, and has a terrible infestation of mice, that is the subject for another time.)

So how is the Palace of Westminster cleaned? And what does this job entail for a window cleaner?

How much?

It costs the British taxpayer £4 million a year to foot the cleaning bill for Parliament, that’s according to a Freedom of Information request by Pure Freedom addressed to the Palace’s representatives earlier this year.

Because the specifics of the cleaning details are not disaggregated from the overall cost, nobody is quite sure how much the window cleaning bill actually is. Except, of course, the contractors — a cleaning service called Atalian Servest — who must know what they are charging the Government to keep the windows sparkling all year long (but won’t tell us).

How many?

But in our educated opinion, it must be a lot of money. The Palace has over 3,000 windows; including special stained glass windows like those you would find in a church — which makes sense because the Palace was built around the small medieval Church of Saint Margaret.

The external windows of the Palace (and, apparently, no one knows how many external windows there are, at least according to the respondents of the Freedom of Information request) are cleaned four times a year. That might seem reasonable, even perhaps, remarkably restrained. But the internal windows are cleaned every single day. Again, no one knows — or at least wants to bother to count and find out — how many windows the Palace has internally, but it must be a lot because the Palace employs a permanent team of four window cleaners. All four of them are on-site, every single day of the year.

Window Cleaning Bills in London

Despite having a window cleaning team working non-stop, every day of the year, like the external windows, the special stained glass windows are only cleaned temporarily.

In fact, the windows are not cleaned regularly, but on an ad hoc basis. These stained glass windows — ancient monuments as they are — also need special care, and so require various unorthodox window cleaning methods, such as ammonia-free solutions, extra soft clothes, and pH-neutral soap. It probably takes an entire day to clean one of them.

The window cleaners also have to use extremely long telescopic poles — in some cases over 100-feet long — to clean the upper echelons of the Palace, into places where ordinary proletarians are not allowed to peer through.

Some reflections and conclusions

The Government is quite ambiguous about the details and the costs of cleaning each of the individual parts of the Palace of Westminster. We were unable to obtain the individual costs of the Houses of Lords or Commons or even a price of just the Palace alone — the total £4 million cost includes the parade grounds and the gardens of Westminster, too.

The Government was certainly ambiguous in that it couldn’t reveal how many windows the Palace had — especially the internal number — and why they needed to be cleaned so thoroughly and so regularly.

What we do know is that the window cleaners of Atalian Servest have requirements that aren’t typical of regular window cleaners, such as cleaning stained-glass windows and using unusually long telescopic poles — a fact which shouldn’t really surprise anyone. And that the job, given the permanence of the team and their requirement on-site, is an unending one. Even calculating for basic wages for window cleaners, the figure total for an always-present team of four must run into the hundreds of thousands every year.

This article was written by Neil Wright, a copywriter and data researcher for Pure Freedom. Pure Freedom manufactures pure water window-cleaning systems for window cleaners all over the UK.

Roof De-moss, SoftWash Treatment and Sanitation in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire

What’s eating your roof?

Its not dirt on your roof, its a FUNGUS infestation!

SkyLine SoftWash was asked to remove the infestation of moss from this roof in Cinderford in the Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire. Whilst the Forest of Dean is surrounded by nature and natural beauty, the trees, and surrounding plant life can cause heavy microorganisms to spread to your roofs quicker than the inner city.

Mould, Algae, Moss and living microorganisms that are in plants, soil, trees and they grow everywhere including on your building!

When you are surrounded by woods and trees in the Forest of Dean the wind, rain, and weather cycles will help spread theses spores and micro-organisms even faster, they can spread rapidly when left un-treated and start to eat away at your roof!

Can roof tiles really be damaged by Moss?

The answer to this is an ongoing debate which has been going on for decades! The true answer to this is YES! Absolutely

MOSS is a microorganism that has a root system and when left to grow and duplicate these roots need to be strong to keep the moss where it is happy living.

Most times moss can be found living on your house roof, Patio or even window ledges. The Moss will find a nice place to live where it can spread and grow in comfort!

The root system is strong, even though you may not be able to see these microscopic roots they are there. you can certainly see the damage caused after you remove the moss.

Moss root can cause damage such as pitting in many structures such as to render, roof tiles, concrete and, much more!

SkyLine Soft Wash has seen this time and time again! Often when cleaning these areas you may find damage that has been uncovered from years of fungus eating away at the surface you were not even aware of!

Its amazing how much damage these tinny little micro-organisms can cause.

How do you to prevent damage from MOSS?

Moss as you know is a fungus that grows so in order the prevent moss damaging your roof or render its best not to let it grow in the first place, You can get sprays or anti-mold liquids from your local DIY shop, If you spray this down its best to treat these areas every few years or if you see Algae start to grow you know there is potential for moss so its then time to treat.

When do i know when is the best time to treat these areas?

The general rule of thumb is Read the label. Many people buy products from shops and wonder why it does not work. Every product you can buy will have different PPE requirements (personal protective equipment) . Many roof cleaning solutions or anti moss chemicals will have different dilution rates and even ideal temperatures that may be required for the active ingredient to work.

Be very careful when handling chemicals, Even if it says its safe to use on the bottle you need to double-check what PPE you will need. Often it will only be safe if you follow the exact guidelines, PPE such as breathing masks, Clothes, Clothing, and footwear do need to be considered.

You may be putting your friends, family, neighbors or even their pets at risk by spraying chemicals your not familiar with.

How do i clean my own roof?

Roof cleaning can be very dangerous, you need to think about if this is really something you are comfortable tackling. Do you have a head for heights? how will you get the chemicals up to your roof? What chemicals will you use to clean your roof?

SkyLine SoftWash is trained in the safe way of cleaning roofs using the SoftWash Systems Blend Rinse modules.

Our staff has gone through the correct training in working from heights, IPAF and PASAM licenses so we can erect scaffold tower safely and use cherry pickers and MEWPS to get up to those higher areas.

Why do people use K-rend on house walls?

Render is used as a cladding option. It is applied to the exterior of a home, much like plaster is applied to the interior walls. There are two reasons for applying render:

  • to protect the underlying walling material from the effects of weathering and rainwater penetration
  • to provide an attractive appearance to the house

What is render?

Render is used on external walls to seal them off to the elements, or to give a property a facelift. Early rendering was a messy business, slapped on the walls using sand and cement and finished with coloured paint. Over the years, rendering technology has evolved greatly, giving a much bigger choice of colours and finishes, and also enabling tailoring to specific environments.

What is K Rend?

K Rend render is a water-repellent, breathable solution – low maintenance and available in most colours. However, will need regular render cleaning treatments to prevent the build-up of growth. Ideally, a treatment every 3-5 years is ideal to maintain your property

What is the difference between K Rend and other render manufacturers?

K Rend traditionally manufactured traditional English thick coat renders, Over the years, various acrylic and silicone

Whilst K Rend also produces thin silicone renders

Both K Rend and other manufacturers now specify a flexible bead or mesh inserted into the base coat adhesive before the final layer of render is applied.

Cement

Cement render tends to be cheap in terms of materials, but a little more expensive on labour due to the numerous coats. It also has a tendency to crack if the underlying structure should move.

Cement renders require regular SoftWash treatments followed by repainting if they are to continue to look good.

Polymers

Polymer renders are usually sold pre-mixed in bags with either white cement or lime as a base.

Polymer house rendering is less prone to cracking — they are often through-coloured too

They have polymers and other plastic-based products added to them to make the render less prone to cracking. Some of these types of render will need specialist cleaning techniques such as SoftWash and DOFF steam cleaning.

Acrylic

Acrylic renders are most often applied as a thin finish coat to seal and enhance the appearance or the underlying coat. They also bring colour and texture. Fibers are added to prevent cracking and give a durable, lasting finish.

some claim that when it rains, the silicone will allow rainwater to wash away any dirt.

However, it is important to keep an eye on things to make sure Algae does not appear as it may need a render cleaning treatment.

Monocouche

‘Monocouche’ (French for ‘single layer’ or ‘bed’ renders) are relative newcomers to the world of house rendering. These products originated in Europe, so many of the big names – Sto, Knauf, Marmorit, and Weber – are European.

Monocouche render is supplied in bags, ready for mixing with water. It can be applied by hand trowel or sprayed on.

It is important to note though that monocouche render systems will save you on labour costs and maintenance — there is no need for re-painting. SoftWash treatment works very well on these types of render.

Monocouche renders have additives which make them more flexible and help to eliminate cracking. They can even be ‘self-cleaning’.

Lime Render

Although lime plastering fell from favour for some years, having been the traditional method for house rendering in this country, there has been a re-emergence of interest recently.

Although lime-based plaster tends to be a little harder to apply than regular Portland cement – meaning it is more commonly used in renovation projects and for conservation work and English heritage sites or listed buildings.

Maintenance for Lime Render can be complex if it’s a listed building. English heritage will only recommend Low-Pressure Steam cleaning and specialist cleaning techniques.  You may need to speak to English heritage to see what is allowed on your building on this instance.

Does Render need painting?

Many Render & K-rend suppliers claim that the render that they supply is self-cleaning, However, just like many glass manufactures claiming that the glass is self-cleaning they are not. Its may help slow down the growth of render by having a waterproof coating however as you know these coatings do wear, so over time this will stop working and will need a top up render cleaning treatment.

Some Render do appear very dirty at times due to algae growth appearing in red, green and even black moulds.

K-rend is the ideal place for Algae, mould and lichens to take hold and can come in trillions of forms..

Micro-organisms have been around for thousands of years on rocks, Structures and if left untreated these micro-organisms can take over your home causing long term damage.

Render cleaning treatments and sanitation kills these Microorganisms leaving the render looking like NEW once again. Many Renders including K-rend and monocouche render there is no need for paint.

Its important to have a treatment every few years to keep your property in tip-top condition. Keeping Algae and moulds at bay to maintain the appearance of your home and stop long term damage that can cause your home/building to decay.
